The game of Battleship has remained largely the same since it was first released as a board game in the 1960s although it goes back much further to World War I as a game played with grids drawn on paper. The version we know and love today includes two horizontal grid pieces with a double-sided vertical grid in between the players. The players place their “fleet” on the horizontal boards in front of them without the other player being able to see and they then take turns firing shots at their enemy by announcing a square on the grid, they keep track of their hits and misses on the vertical target board.
